Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
Reflections about life, Scripture, culture, and the mission of God. I hope to always keep the mentality of a growing minister; like a perpetual Timothy (I Timothy 4:11-16).

Be Thou My Vision
I had never heard of this song until just recently. I don't know exactly how old the words are, but the melody is a very old Irish one. You have to hear it sung with zeal to truly appreciate it, but the lyrics are worthy of meditation. There's a version of Phil Keaggy singing this that's a good one on his True Believers album.

There's a version of this by Ginny Owens (the first place I heard it) that is particularly poignant since she is blind.
ReplyDeletei'm really familiar with this song b/c my dad leads singing often at church. it's one of those songs that most of the congregation doesn't know, but i love it!
ReplyDeleteThis has always been one of Rachel's favorites.
